365 Redesign

CENTERED STUFF IS EVERYWHERE!!! Man, when I finished this one up I realized how much centered stuff I’ve done recently. Centered stuff requires less thought and I think my time constraint is to blame for the “I don’t what to do! I’ll just center it!”. Lame. I know I’ve said I am using the content given, but sometimes I will adapt it. Instead of the “Yes” and “No” I made the graphical version of them.

So, as you may, or may not have noticed, I’ve been trying to do something I wouldn’t normally do. A running joke at school is about blood splats. Anything with a blood splat, must be cool, right? My school is a very traditional grid based, European inspired design school, so the blood splat isn’t something anyone would use. So I thought I’d give it a use. Actually, todays entire design was based around the idea of a blood splat. I thought a Blackletter would look good with it. Some days I try to be inspired by the piece I’m working on, and others the piece is purely content and the design is what’s driving it. Today is a design day, I took no thought to the content here, it may as well have been Lorem Ipsum in there. Today is the second day in a row (and second day total) that I actually ran out of time. I was still positioning things when the time ran out, so I just left them where they were. I would like to see the red copy a little higher (i think).

Tonight we went and saw This Is It, you know, that Michael Jackson movie. It was pretty good. This poster started out TOTALLY differently than it ended up. I put a slight glow behind the main title, I can’t decide if I like it not. It felt weird without it after it had been there for awhile, but it kinda bugs me. [edit] I just looked at it again and I wish I had taken it off.

So, a recent trip to the zoo brought to my attention possibly the greatest “Don’t Feed the Animals” sign I ever have seen. I love the nondescript “animal” with razor sharp teeth. When I see this sign I don’t read “the poor animal might get sick”, but instead I read “Holy crap, it will rip my hand off!”. Was that the intent? Seems so to me, so lets not hide it so much. My take is more of a warning to the human. I’ve always hated signs that say “please” when really it’s not a “please” but “just don’t do it”. They aren’t fooling anyone, and the “please” leaves ample room for a smart aleck.

Todays redesign is courtesy of Jamba Juice. This morning I had to wake up early and get my homework printed off and mounted before class, so I was in a big rush. Once it was all done I had a few minutes to spare so I went over to the Jamba Juice and ordered myself a nice Cold Buster (gotta boost that immunity, don’t want the swine flu, ya know). While waiting for my breakfast I was reading the bulletin board, I didn’t even notice this sign until I had read just about everything else. It was dead center, yet totally hidden. I thought it deserved a redesign.
